"So far, the congressional candidate from New Jersey’s seventh district, Peter Jacob, is the only New Jersey candidate to garner an endorsement from Sanders’ organization."
"Democrat Peter Jacob has been pushing hard to try and get his name out there in a district that has been steadily Republican. In that challenge, Jacob has pitted himself against Congressman Leonard Lance. [...] One thing that Jacob has on his side is his support of grassroots phenom Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential run. Because Jacob was actively involved in the Sanders movement, he has a baseline for support in his district."
Jacobs, a Sanders supporter, concurred. “This is the most progressive platform the Democratic Party has ever adopted,” though some issues like the Trans Pacific Partnership, or fracking, are still to be fought out,” he said. “But what’s beautiful about our convention is there’s unity and even Bernie came out and appealed for it.”
Peter Jacob is a social worker that is looking to oust Congressman Leonard Lance from the position he has held since 2009. Jacob, a Democrat from Union, has never held elected office but he thinks he is the right candidate to represent CD7, give the district the progressive voice he feels it needs and “bring the public back into public service.”
Beyond being attractive, he has a huge heart. After finishing his Masters Degree, he came back to New Jersey to develop and maintain a homeless shelter program. He’s running in a typically Republican district, so this Democrat is going to have a little bit of a battle ahead; but he’ll sure look good doing it.
"A young Democrat running against Republican incumbent Leonard Lance in New Jersey’s seventh congressional district received an endorsement from the national Progressive Democrats of America PAC Wednesday. Peter Jacob was the only congressional candidate running on the line in all his districts’ counties to support Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary."
"Bill Killion, campaign manager for Congressman Leonard Lance, R-7, will leave his campaign and leave New Jersey to work for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Southeast Pennsylvania, according to a Thursday, Aug. 4, release from Rishi Mehta from the campaign office of Lance’s Democratic challenger Peter Jacob."
“A key thing that he also said is that this campaign is not about Bernie Sanders, Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump. It is about we the people of this nation. Although the platform is not binding, it is something that we fought for as the people. We have to continue. It does not end with Bernie Sanders not getting the nomination. It is just the beginning of the political revolution that we have to fight to continue, to keep alive," Jacob said.
“For far too long, we’ve seen what career establishment politicians are doing,” he said. “In the 21st century, in the year 2016, we need new leaders, especially a social worker who is uniquely qualified to answer a lot of the challenges we have in the 21st century. Someone who has seen people who are suffering from poverty, families that have been hit hard by the crash and have not recovered, the impact it has had on our communities and small businesses.
‘My parents came to the United States from Kerala in 1986. They arrived with $20 in their pockets, hearts full of hope, and a 6 month old (me) in their arms. They were able to establish a small business, purchase a beautiful home, and send their children to college,’ he noted, adding that many people are not able to realize their American dream due to the manipulations in the economy and greed of the Wall Street.
